August 26:
- Uncorked at LASM. Wine tasting event in which each tasting supports a non-profit effort, with this tasting to benefit the Louisiana Art and Science Museum and Teach for America. Admission is $25 per person in teams of one to three people. Each team brings three identical bottles of wine--two to taste and one to go into a giant prize package that goes home with the team whose wine garners the most points! 7-10pm at LASM, 100 River Road South.
- Gueydan Duck Festival (Gueydan, LA). Aug. 26-Aug. 29. Come watch and participate in the dog trials, skeet shooting, the Louisiana start duck and goose calling contests, duck carving and painting competitions, a duck and goose cookoff (Aug. 29), pageant, parade, and carnival rides and live bands all weekend!! Bring the kids for lots of family fun! Family night is Thursday Aug 26 6-10:30pm. Friday 4pm-1am, Saturday 8am-12:30am, and Sunday 9am-2pm. $5 for adults and children are free! www.duckfestival.org
August 27:
- Columbia Street Block Party (Covington, LA). Free admission! 6:30-9:30pm.
August 28:
- A Feliciana White Linen Night (St. Francisville, LA). Strap on your best whites and get out amongst some fresh happenings in St. Francisville! Beginning at 5pm, participating merchants will play host to various artists and musicians performing in and out of doors, while local restuarants will be serving samples and refreshments. Shops open until 9pm!!
- Zoo Zoom 5k. Everyone is welcome to vie for the coveted Ostrich Egg Trophy at the Baton Rouge Zoo's annual Zoo Zoom 5k! This is a family friendly event with preregistration $12 for Club South members and $14 for non-members. Registration the day of the race is $20. A portion of each registration supports the zoo's conservation programs for threatened and endangered animals. Race day registration begins at 6:30 am. Race starts at 8:15am, with a kid's half mile fun run before at 7:45am. 3601 Thomas Road. For more information, call 225-775-3877.
- National Hansen's Museum Tour (Carville, LA). Come out and tour the nation's only leprosy hospital in the U.S. Since 1894, patients, nurses and doctors lived and worked here as they battled leprosy--also known as Hansen's Disease. Many patients, who were forced to live here for life, left behind photographs, memorabilia, and their stories. At 2pm, a documentary film explains the hisotry of the facility, followed by a tour of the historic grounds and buildings at 3pm. Pre-Registration is required. 225-642-1950.
